Visit to Geneva

Attendees: David Borrow MP, Neil Gerrard MP, Lord Norman Fowler, Dr Evan Harris MP, Veronica Oakeshott.

This was part three of our Enquiry into Access to Medicines in the Developing World. Interviews from the visit have been fed into our report “A Treatment Timebomb? The Long view of Access to HIV medicines in the Developing World”. We had meetings for two days in Geneva, visiting the following organisations to ask about their role in improving Access to HIV Medicines:

  • International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development
  • South Centre
  • World Health Organisation
  • UNAIDS
  • UNITAID
  • World Trade Organisation
  • UK Mission to the UN in Geneva
  • UNCTAD

The UK Ambassador to the UN, Peter Gooderham hosted a dinner for us at the Embassy with Professor Michel Kazatchkine Director of The Global Fund, Denis Aitken, Assistant Director-General of WHO, Dr Julian Lob-Levyt, CEO of GAVI and Dr Denis Broun Chief of Partnerships at UNAIDS.
